Training Required

 Next one scheduled will be early 2023. The date will be announced. CVJI offers a General Training and Crisis Support Training (required to work directly with survivors). Volunteer positions include Outreach/Awareness, Speaker/Trainer, Fundraising, Marketing/Writing, and Crisis/ Survivor Support.

Outreach/
Awareness 

Represent CVJI at community events, outdoors or indoors. Help with set up and removal. CVJI provides all supplies. May be asked to bring own chair if outdoors. Must be friendly and be able to engage in conversation with adults; networking skills is a plus. Must understand human trafficking locally and have a general understanding of human trafficking in general. Also, may be asked to help with filling emergency supply backpacks for survivors when needed. 

Speaker/Trainer 

Represent CVJI and its mission; provide presentation about human trafficking to groups, churches, non-profits and local governmental agencies. Trainee is required to learn materials and observe experienced volunteer. The executive director will sign off on the trainee’s readiness to speak alone. Must have good speaking skills and people skills. Experience preferred, but will train. 

Fundraising 

Provide ideas and plan online or in-person events. Contact venues, review terms and costs. Collaborate with other volunteers to prepare and assist with event. Good interpersonal skills are a must. Community connections and/or fundraising experience preferred.   

Marketing/
Writing

Assist with social media, website and newsletter by providing content that fits with CVJI mission. Design flyers and other materials. Report on human trafficking awareness/training events in person or online. Take photos. Research as needed. Good interpersonal, interview and writing skills required. Writing and photography experience is a plus. Website and social media experience is preferred. Must have or be willing to develop an in-depth understanding of human trafficking, especially as it occurs in this region.

Crisis/Survivor Support

Work with community partners and law enforcement to provide services for victim/survivor of human trafficking. Assess needs of survivors either by phone or in-person (preferable), document assessment and information on CVJI materials. Request survivor input. Follow documentation and confidentiality policies. Contact and work with other agencies and non-profits that provide services including housing and/or aftercare. Arrange public transportation. May be asked to transport. (CVJI Policy requires two volunteers present when transporting.) Must complete online victim assistance training via The Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance at https://www.ovcttac.gov  A criminal background check and references are required. Good interpersonal skills and good listening skills required. Previous human service provider experience is a plus.
